Successful Gathering

At the end of February, on 27-28 February 2024, the Impact Monitor project partners had the chance to gather at the esteemed UPC / CIMNE premises in Barcelona, Spain, for a challenging but very enriching two-day technical workshop and M12 progress meeting. The technical workshop was focused on the development of the Impact Monitor framework and dashboard application, harmonizing the common language and data model available at CPACS.de. To demonstrate the capabilities, the team moved forward with the implementation of three multilevel demonstration use cases that will showcase our holistic system-of-systems approach to aviation impact assessment. This event marked a significant milestone for the Impact Monitor consortium, bringing together experts from across Europe to collaborate, share insights, and chart the course forward for our project.

Key Highlights:

  • Collaborative Workshops: Engaging sessions were dedicated to discussing the latest advancements and methodologies in impact assessment within the aviation sector. The focus was on refining our approach to evaluating environmental, economic, and societal impacts.
  • Progress Updates: Each partner presented their work and achievements over the past year, showcasing the collective progress we've made toward harmonizing a coherent, collaborative and multilevel impact assessment framework and toolbox across Europe.
  • Strategic Planning: We laid out the roadmap for the upcoming months, identified key areas for further development and started planning our upcoming dissemination activities at the 14th EASN International Conference in Thessaloniki.
  • Networking and Collaboration: The meeting provided a fantastic opportunity for consortium members to network, fostering stronger relationships and encouraging open collaboration.

Towards Demonstration:

We are striving to achieve proof of concept for the three use cases tailored to demonstrate our aircraft-agnostic framework.

  1. Use Case “Advanced Propulsion System” will show the integration and assessment of new engine technologies at aircraft and mission level.
  2. Use Case “Continuous Descent Operations” will demonstrate the change of operational procedures and their multiple impacts at airport level.
  3. Use Case “Sustainable Aviation Fuel” will illustrate the impacts of policy on future fleet and fuel market developments at air transport system level.

A Heartfelt Thank You
A huge thank you to all our consortium partners for their dedication and hard work, the European Commission for their continuous support, and everyone involved in making this event a success. Your commitment is driving us closer to our goal of creating a sustainable and innovative future for aviation.

Looking Ahead
The insights gained from this meeting will undoubtedly propel us forward, as we continue to work on delivering impactful research and solutions that address the pressing challenges facing the aviation industry.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue on this exciting journey with the Impact Monitor consortium. Together, we are shaping the future of aviation!
