Impact Monitor is an EU-funded project implemented by a highly competent and complementary consortium.
Its first high-level aim is to develop a coherent and holistic impact assessment framework and toolbox that supports the European Commission (EC) in making science-based informed decisions for technology and policy assessment of the environmental, economic, and societal impact of European aviation R&I. Specifically, the assessments will focus on greenhouse-gas emissions, local air-quality, and noise.
The project focuses on demonstrating the collaborative assessment through example use cases at aircraft, airport, and air transport system level.
The underlying system of systems architecting process will be supported by digital technologies for collaborative engineering, under the project coordination of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
Impact Monitor builds on and advances the approaches used in EC Better Regulation guidelines and toolbox as well as in the EC projects TEAM_Play, Clean Sky TE, and AGILE/AGILE 4.0.
Work Package Structure
WP1 - Impact Monitor Toolbox
WP Leader: NLR
WP Contributors: DLR, ONERA, CIRA, CU, USTUTT, TML, UoP, UPC
Objectives:
- Specify the assessment toolbox that sets out the requirements for the key steps in the assessment cycle and provides practical, hands-on guidance and operational details.
WP2 - Interfaces to Research & Innovation Initiatives
WP Leader: CIRA
WP Contributors: DLR, NLR, CU, USTUTT, TML, UoP, UPC
Objectives:
- Identify relevant interfaces and requirements of key stakeholders and reference community associations to get awareness and expectations related to the air transport environmental impact research initiatives.
- Select the most effective data sources within programmes (e.g., HE, CA, SESAR3, …) and collection of data.
- Create a specific "R&I Projects Dataset“ devoted to collect, identify, and classify the information over the whole life cycle phases (e.g., design, manufacturing, operations, …).
WP3 - Impact Monitor Framework
WP Leader: DLR
WP Contributors: ONERA, NLR, CIRA, TML, UPC, CU, UoP
Objectives:
- Setup and deliver a future proof distributed assessment framework for impact monitoring purposes.
- Support the application to the proof-of-concept use cases.
- Organize workshops and preparation of training materials supporting users of the Collaborative Assessment Framework from within and outside the project consortium.
WP4 - Visual Data Analytics Environment (Interactive Dashboard)
WP Leader: CU
WP Contributors: DLR, ONERA, NLR, UoP
Objectives:
- Develop and configure an interactive web-based visual and data analytics environment Dashboard Application (DA).
- Incorporate and utilize data visualization and interpretation techniques/methods.
- Integrate with the overall collaborative MBSE framework (WP3) and employment at the post processing stage for design space exploration and use case data analysis.
- Demonstrate application readiness of DA through application on the use cases in WP5.
WP5 - Demonstration Use-Cases
WP Leader: ONERA
WP Contributors: DLR, NLR, CIRA, CU, USTUTT, TML, UoP, UPC
Objectives:
- Collect, catalogue, and implement available models from the consortium covering the three levels of interest.
- Define, implement, and operate demonstration use cases tailored to the project identified stakeholders.
- Demonstrate the capability of the collaborative assessment framework to produce environmental, economic and societal metrics.
- Contribute to the project roadmap towards full deployment of the framework.
WP6 - Dissemination & Communication
WP Leader: EASN TIS
WP Contributors: DLR, ONERA, NLR, CIRA, CU, USTUTT, TML, UoP, UPC
Objectives:
- Elaborate and implement an effective dissemination and communication strategy, to achieve increased awareness and maximal diffusion.
- Ensure wide scale uptake of project results through comprehensive dissemination and exploitation activities towards each identified target group.
- Guarantee the frequent promotion of achievements and lessons learnt through scientific and non-scientific publications, conferences/workshops/events, and local and international media/press, during but also beyond the end of the project.
- Create awareness for the societal benefits of the project outcomes by targeting the general public.
- Monitor the protection and management of the knowledge created in the project, and at the same time ensure open access to the results achieved within the project.
- Develop synergies with other projects in related fields.
- Contribute to the connection of aviation R&I with education and skills via the organization of initiatives involving the Impact Monitor framework & toolbox (Impact Monitor Academy).
- Ensure efficient management of the data produced in the context of the project implementation.
WP7 - Management & Coordination
