We are thrilled to announce the official launch of Impact Monitor 2 (IM2) — the next step in advancing Europe’s capability to assess the environmental, climate, and economic impacts of aviation research and innovation (R&I).
As European aviation continues to play a vital role in achieving the EU’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050, the need for reliable, science-based tools to support strategic policy and investment decisions has never been greater. That’s where Impact Monitor 2 steps in.
Building on a Solid Foundation
Impact Monitor 2 builds on the outcomes of the original Impact Monitor project, which laid the groundwork for a collaborative Toolbox and Framework designed to support system-level impact assessments across the aviation sector. These novelties enable stakeholders to evaluate technologies, operations, and regulatory measures in terms of their contribution to environmental performance, climate goals, and industrial competitiveness.
What’s New in Impact Monitor 2?
In this second phase, the project focuses on enhancing and expanding the existing Toolbox and Framework, making them even more effective in supporting:
- Cross-disciplinary integration of models and data
- Forecast analysis for informed, evidence-based policymaking
- Collaborative decision-making involving multiple stakeholder perspectives
Impact Monitor 2, opting to apply the framework to preliminary impact assessments of R&I from Horizon Europe projects, Clean Aviation and SESAR Joint Undertaking 3 initiatives, is expected to helping Europe stay at the forefront of innovation, sustainability, and industrial leadership.
